Our Story

A studio built around conversation

Loft & Fern came about because the founders — both with backgrounds in architecture and furniture design — kept noticing the same thing: people didn't feel heard. They'd commission a designer, get something visually polished, and still feel the space wasn't quite theirs.

So we built a practice around the opposite approach. The process always starts with listening. How do you use the space in the morning? What textures make you feel comfortable? Is there anything about the current layout that quietly frustrates you? Those answers matter more than trends.

Based in Bangsar since 2018, we've worked on apartments in Mont Kiara, terrace houses in Petaling Jaya, and small cafés and studios across the Klang Valley. Each project has its own character, and we try to honour that rather than apply a signature style across every job.

The People

A small team, closely involved

We keep the studio small by design. Every project has a named person responsible — not a junior handed off from a principal.

NR

Nadia Rahman

Co-founder & Lead Designer

Trained in architecture at UTM, Nadia leads the spatial and material side of each project. She has a particular interest in how light moves through residential spaces.

DL

Daniel Lim

Co-founder & Project Director

Daniel manages client relationships and project coordination. His background in furniture design means he is closely involved in material and fixture selection.

SK

Sharifah Kamilia

Design & Visualisation

Kamilia produces all 3D visualisations and technical drawings. She joined the studio in 2021 and brings a careful, measured approach to documentation and presentation.

How We Work

Standards we hold ourselves to

Clear documentation

Every project produces a documented brief — drawings, material specs, contractor notes — so nothing relies on memory or informal understanding.

Privacy & discretion

We visit your home as guests. Project details, photos, and personal information are handled with care and never shared without your permission.

Realistic timelines

We are honest about how long things take. If a supplier is slow or a site visit reveals something unexpected, you hear it from us directly — not after a delay.

Transparent pricing

Service fees are fixed and stated upfront. We don't receive commissions from vendors or contractors, which keeps our advice independent.

Material sourcing

We source from Malaysian suppliers where possible and prefer materials with known durability and low maintenance. We'll always explain our choices and welcome alternatives.

Revision rounds included

The Complete Design package includes two revision rounds — space to react, refine, and make sure the direction actually feels right before we finalise anything.

Our Approach

Interior design rooted in Malaysian living

Interior design in a tropical city like Kuala Lumpur presents its own particular considerations. High humidity, year-round warmth, strong afternoon light, and open-plan layouts suited to the climate — these aren't details that a design approach imported wholesale from Europe or Scandinavia can easily accommodate. Loft & Fern has grown its practice around these realities.

Natural materials that breathe, finishes that age well in humidity, spatial planning that respects ventilation and cross-flow — these are part of how we think from the start of each project. The Rattan Lattice design language we use internally draws from the region's craft heritage: the woven textures, warm wood tones, and lush plant forms that have been part of Southeast Asian domestic life for generations, reinterpreted for contemporary homes and commercial spaces.

We work with residential clients across Bangsar, TTDI, Damansara, and the wider Klang Valley, as well as light commercial spaces such as cafés, photography studios, and small offices. Our services range from a single spatial consultation to a full design and project management engagement — the structure adapts to what each client actually needs.
